The China Council for Promotion of the International Trade (CCPIT) granted Mr. Wakahara Tomio, Vice-president of the Tokai Japan-China Trade Center, the title of honorary member of CCPIT to honor his long-term contribution to the promotion of the Sino-Japanese friendship and bilateral economic and trade co-operations.
Wan Jifei, Chairman of the CCPIT, awarded Mr. Wakahara Tomio the honorary member certificate.
In his address, Wan Jifei said that last year was a year of great importance in the history of Sino-Japanese trade, when the bilateral trade volume, for the first time, has broken the number of 200 billion, reaching 207.36 billion. He attributed the success to the joint efforts of those with the trade business in both countries. He affirmed the tremendous contributions and continuous efforts made by Mr. Wakahara Tomio to the promotion of the co-operation and communication in the economic field as well as the Chinese and Japanese people’s friendship.
Mr. Wakahara Tomio expressed his appreciation by reviewing his life of working for the course of Sino-Japanese friendship and economic and trade co-operation. He said that he was extremely honoured to be the first person in the Tokai Region who had been granted the title of honorary member of the CCPIT. He said that he would contribute his entire life time to his beloved course and try to make greater contributions in the following years.
As a young man, Mr. Wakahara Tomio once studied and worked in China. After getting back to Japan, He began to work for the Tokai Japan-China Conference for the Promotion of Trade in the year 1954, and then in 1955, he co-established the Tokai General Bureau of the JAPIT. From the 1970s until now, he has successively held the posts of managing director, sectary-general, director and vice-president and at the same time held the post of vice-chairman of other pro-Chinese organizations in the Tokai region.
To honour those foreign people concerned for their long-term efforts to vigorously promote the economic and trade co-operations with China and greatly support the CCPIT, CCPIT has kept the tradition of granting the title of honorary member to people from other countries since the 1980s. Last October, Senior Executive Director of the JAPIT Mr. Nakata Yoshio was granted the title.
Persons in charge of the CCPIT departments related such as International Relations Department, General Office, Sub-Council and Membership Affairs Department, Economic Information Department and Patent and Trademark Law Office were present at the ceremony. Also present were over 20 representatives from the Japanese government and the friendly economic and trade organizations concerned such as the Japanese Embassy, the Japan-China Economic Association and the JETRO. Large numbers of Chinese and Japanese journalists from Xinhua News Agency, CNS, People’s Daily Overseas Edition, MSNCN and other media had interviewed the awarding ceremony.
