Ontario Ministry of Citizenship, Immigration and International Trade, in cooperation with the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service in China, is organizing a Mobile Technology Mission to China in June 2016. You are warmly invited to join other Ontario firms in exhibiting in the Ontario Pavilion at 2016 Mobile World Congress Shanghai (MWC Shanghai) between June 29 – July 1.In addition to the exhibition and programs in Shanghai, with the support of Embassy of Canada in Beijing, Consulate General of Canada in Guangzhou and Shanghai, Ontario companies will also benefit from well-organized business programs in Beijing, Hangzhou and Shenzhen before MWC Shanghai.

Under the theme of ‘Mobile Unlimited’, Mobile World Congress Shanghai is the GSMA’s largest and most successful event in Asia to date, with nearly 50,000 attendees participating in various elements of the event. MWC Shanghai focuses on how mobile technology - from connected cars and wearable technologies to mobile payments and smarter cities - is revolutionising and enhancing every aspect of individuals’ lives. The three-day event attracts executives from the industry’s largest and most influential mobile operators, software companies, device makers, equipment providers and internet companies, as well as government delegations and consumer attendees.

Concurrent Expo/Exhibition

Shanghai Digital Information Festival (SHDIF) will again be co-located with MWC Shanghai, with a focus on showcasing mobile and ICT focused exhibitors to event attendees. Shanghai Digital Information Fair is open to general public and is established to be a combination of B2C and C2C showcase. The Fair sets its theme on "Internet +", and encourages SME innovation and entrepreneurship, focuses on "medical", "dining", "living", "travel", "education", "entertainment", "finance" and "credit". Smart City Expo Shanghai will be held at the same venue for MWC Shanghai and during the same time period. About 300 exhibitors, including internationally renowned brands such as Microsoft, IBM, Huawei, Schneider, participated in the expo. About 20,000 visitors from 277 pilot smart cities in China and other related urban planning departments will come to the expo. The expo will cover sectors of Mobile Communications, IoT, Urban Solutions, Smart Home, Smart Building and Smart Education to present how technologies and innovations improve people’s daily life and allow participants to experience latest mobile technologies. Technical Seminars (subject to change with notice)
Technical seminars will be organized during outreach trips to provide excellent opportunities for information exchange, business development and network establishment. Each participating Ontario firm will have opportunity to present its company profile and innovative products/technologies/services to selected local audience consisting of local government officials, key industry experts, leading mobile technology firms.

Market Briefings (subject to change with notice)
 Market briefings are an integral part of the business program providing in-depth market intelligence and expert assessment on market opportunities. Feedback from previous missions proves that most delegates benefit from the briefing as well as interacting with Canadian trade commissioners who are seasoned experts in their respective sectors and territories.

B2B Meetings (subject to change with notice)
 B2B Meetings will be arranged for participating Ontario firms with qualified local companies to meet your partnership and business development objectives. Contacts and business leads established at B2B meetings are valuable outcomes that may eventually bring you real business results.  

Outreach Program (subject to change with notice)

Outreach program will be organized to provide mission members an opportunity to visit key industry players in a selected industry cluster in China. Seminars, round-table meetings, site visits and networking events will be arranged to facilitate business development, networking and high-level dialogues with senior local government officials and business executives.


Fee for full participation is C$1,500 and fee for partial participation is C$1,000 per company will apply for the mission. $1,500 entitles each participating company to have shared exhibition space in the Ontario portion at MWC Shanghai, and to participate in all aspects of the business program in Beijing, Shenzhen and Hangzhou. $1,000 entitles participating company to have full access to all aspects of the business program in Beijing, Shenzhen and Hangzhou only. In both cases, the fee also covers program-related local ground transfers as well as interpretation service.

The mission fee does NOT include international flights, accommodation, meal, personal travel incidental costs and registration fees for some events during MWC Shanghai.

Funding support opportunity:

Export Market Access (EMA) is an initiative of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, with support and funding from the Government of Ontario. It is designed to assist small to medium size organizations (SMEs) to access and expand their growth in foreign markets. Companies with annual sales of $500,000 or more may qualify for a grant covering up to 50% of the direct costs of accessing and expanding into export markets (up to C$30,000). Early Stage Exporter (ESE) Recognizing that some companies naturally have a global mindset early on in their development, the Early Stage Exporters fund has been created to assist Ontario small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to develop and grow their export markets, obtain new sources of capitalization/funding, and increase export sales of Ontario goods and services. The Early Stage Exporters fund is administered by the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) with the support and funding from the Ontario government. CanExport, a new federal funding program announced on January 5th, 2016, will provide up to $50 million over five years in direct financial support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Canada seeking to develop new export opportunities, particularly in high-growth priority markets and sectors.
